Invest in Justice

The right to a fair trial should not be dependent on your ability to pay bail.

BEFORE YOU DONATE:

We at the Richmond Community Bail Fund have raised $700,000 as of 8pm on Tuesday, 06/02. We are so overwhelmed and grateful for the community trust that comes along with this level of generosity.

Here’s a snapshot of our work lately:

  • Volunteers 24/7 staffing the jail support hotline for folks who have been arrested or witnessed an arrest.

  • Paying ALL cash bails referred to us

  • Coordinating jail support including food, care, and rides for arrestees.

  • Recruiting, coordinating, and eventually compensating attorneys for arrested protesters

  • Paying car impound fees for folks arrested

  • Paying for collateral costs arising from arrest, such as electronic monitoring fees

  • When courts are open, running the Courtwatch RVA Program

  • Supporting youth incarcerated at Bon Air Juvenile facility

  • Distributing soap and masks to jails and prisons in Richmond/the greater Richmond area

We will continue to use your extraordinarily generous donations for our core work: posting bonds in the greater Richmond area (including Henrico, Chesterfield, and Hanover) and providing transportation and jail support, but will soon begin using some of these funds to support other groups working to end mass incarceration & fight for black liberation. We also intend to give start-up money to new bail funds across Virginia.

While we have not yet had to bail out any protestors, our volunteers have been on the ground and on the hotline providing support to protesters and we are ready if the occasion arises. We believe that protestors feels safer in the street knowing that there is infrastructure to support them when state repression inevitably comes, and we are so grateful to be able to do this work.
